A certain young person told me last night a JW friend of his from N.Y. received an Elder visit . The suspect was told that the elders had been lurking about on myspace and had caught several young ones with accounts there . They told this person's account was benign yet was counseled it was bad association to be on myspace. The young people involved felt it a gross disrespect for the Elders to have their own accounts on myspace for the sole purpose to entrap others . Anyone else hear of this sting operation in your part of the country ? And what do you think of these tactics ,besides typical ?

Renee ,your letter is beautiful , thank you for sharing it with all of us ! I don't see how your family could not help but be moved by your words. Wishing you all the best. (I printed a copy to save for myself to read over again)

I also wonder if anyone ever recognizes someone on here as someone they know. I think it would be so cool to find out it was one of my adult children ! They have no idea that I post here . Maybe one day I 'll be brave enough to post my picture. By the way , cute mug shot

Where is the Passion now?

many of us were passionate about the 'truth'.
our lives were the watchtower.

Ferret , it is good to know it's not to late. I think the kids growing up now are to smart to stay in as long as me .I hope I raised mine with enough freedom of choice that they will make the decisions best for them.

Sammies wife , Yes I understand completely your post about how it is growing up so sheltered and not having the opportunity to expand interests. I am in my forties and just now feeling free enough to begin a search of what passions I may have .

Can a JW be disfellowshipped because of "Materialism"?
by JH inkeeping in mind these verses below:.
for we have brought nothing into the world, and neither can we carry anything out.
8 so, having sustenance and covering, we shall be content with these things.

Do elders get tax breaks because of being considered "clergy" ? I wonder how they afford the nice cars , great vacations and big homes.Or is it because they own their own businesses , and baby business is good !

I think I am still fumbling around for something to be passionate about. One of the regrets of being raised a witness is that I was never allowed to pursue outside interests. I have always had an interest in art, and am trying to be more involved in photography.I've always wanted to learn Tai Chi ... Missing meetings is freeing up my time , maybe I just need some ideas of things to try .

Beginning the road out.
by wozadummy inyes i'm new to this forum and i have been searching the net and reading with interest peoples comments here and on other sites.
as most know reaching out as a faithfull jw to others outside of the congregation is difficult at first ,as i guess we think anyone outside the congregation is wordly etc.
and we can't open up easily to "strangers" as jehovah would not approve.

Welcome to the forum. I was amazed when I started reading posts on this site . I just felt for the first time that there were other people that understood how I felt, and that could relate to some of the strange issue's JW's learn to live with. Please stick around and tell us your story . I've only been active on here for a few months ,but I can tell you there is a wealth of experience and good souls here .

When was the last time a witness knocked at your door as a friend, not FS?
by JH in.
although i've been bapized back in 1988, and never was disfellowshipped, the last time a jw came over here as a friend, was about 15 years ago.
oh, and i'm not shunned..... the only witnesses who knocked on my door in the last 15 years, were elders, in "uniform" in the field service.. now, imagine if i was really shunned......

Last March ! I have never been disciplined by the congregation and only started fading since November . But the only time witnesses come by my house anymore is when they want me to do something for them . Never a friendly visit . And I've been in this hall 26 years ! The few that use to come by moved , or are slowly disappearing themselves . So much for the wonderful bond of love we are supposedly known for . I use to be the one that tried had to have people over, welcome new ones, ect. Then I began to realize it was never recipocated and that I was really just a chump .

Strangest Local Needs?!?!?!?!
by thepackage inwhat was the starngest local needs topic you ever heard???
?

I almost went last night, just to hear the local needs part . Instead I stayed home took a nap ,and watched the OC. The dumbest one we have had is a toss up, but probably the one about how to properly bathe ourselves so we don't have B.O.Then they say don't use deodorant,.colonge or perfume because so many have allergies. Most of the time I just wanted to hear why there have been so many elders meetings after the regular meeting. The local needs part usually takes away any doubt about whats going on in the hall .
